The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.
A delegation from the Permanent group on the inclusion of the Roma carried out a fact-finding mission to Bulgaria on 17 & 18 June 2024. The new Roma strategy was generally considered more positive than the previous one. Yet, funding for Roma still represented problems. Action was needed to tackle the situation of people without identity cards, which was affecting many Roma, and to tackle segregation at the school level.

The legitimate interests of the EU in the European Arctic will best be defended together through an EU Arctic strategy that strengthens civil society participation in all relevant decisions. Close cooperation with Greenland is also vital for sustainable investment in the Arctic in order to ensure the regions' prosperity and resilience.
29 January 2025 - The Employers' Group of the European Economic and Social Committee welcomes the European Commission's Competitiveness Compass as a critical and timely step to reignite Europe’s economic engine.
The EU needs a sharper focus on competition policy to strengthen its global competitiveness, boost productivity and ensure the single market remains a pillar of economic strength, according to the EESC.

This is why the EESC Permanent Group on Services of General Interest met and discussed in Warsaw on 6 March 2025 at a seminar during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, co-organized by the EAPN Poland, the role of quality services of general interest in meeting needs in the field of housing.
