América Latina y el Caribe

El CESE ha trabajado con organizaciones equivalentes de América Latina y el Caribe desde los años noventa del siglo pasado. Varios dictámenes del CESE han tratado sobre las relaciones con esta región a nivel regional, subregional y nacional. Entre las prioridades del CESE se incluyen el desarrollo de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil, el desarrollo económico y social, la integración regional y la cooperación en la esfera multilateral.

A nivel regional, el CESE organiza reuniones bienales entre representantes de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil en Europa, América Latina y el Caribe, como uno de los actos preparatorios previos a la Cumbre UE-CELAC. 

A nivel subregional y nacional se han creado varias estructuras. En 2009, el CESE creó una Mesa Redonda de la Sociedad Civil con el Consejo de Desarrollo Económico y Social (CDES) de Brasil, con el fin de proporcionar un foro para el diálogo y la cooperación continua entre representantes de la sociedad civil europea y brasileña. El Acuerdo de Asociación UE-Chile otorgó al CESE el mandato de crear un Comité Consultivo Conjunto UE-Chile, establecido finalmente en 2016, junto a la sociedad civil chilena con el objetivo de supervisar el acuerdo. En lo que respecta a los países de la Comunidad Andina, el CESE participa en el Grupo Consultivo Interno que supervisa el Acuerdo de Libre Comercio entre la UE y Colombia, Perú y Ecuador. También participa en el Comité Consultivo Cariforum-UE que supervisa el Acuerdo de Asociación Económica Cariforum-UE. Se han establecido relaciones permanentes con los equivalentes institucionales del CESE en el Mercosur (el Foro Consultivo Económico-Social) y en Centroamérica (el Comité Consultivo del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana).

    Es necesario un nuevo contrato social para América Latina que garantice la responsabilidad política, la inclusión, la protección social y el empleo de calidad: así lo afirmó el Comité Económico y Social Europeo (CESE) en su Dictamen de iniciativa sobre la situación socioeconómica en América Latina tras la pandemia. Las sociedades civiles organizadas de forma libre y democrática son el mejor punto de partida.

  • Dialogue with the Latin America Follow-up Committee: Focus on The Gran Chaco

  • 9th Meeting of the EU-Brazil Civil Society Round Table

    Driven by the collaboration between the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Brazilian Economic and Social Development Council (CDES), the EU-Brazil Civil Society Round Table held eight meetings between 2009 and 2014. Following the re-establishment of Brazil’s civil society advisory body in 2023 – now operating as the Sustainable Economic and Social Development Council of Brazil (CDESS) – and in accordance with the EESC-CDESS Memorandum of Understanding signed on 9 April 2024 in Brasília, as well as the Joint Statement issued by the President of the EESC and the Minister of Institutional Relations of Brazil on 10 April 2024, the EU-Brazil Civil Society Round Table has been officially reactivated.

Participants engaged in high-level dialogues, expert briefings, and the adoption of a Joint Statement, shaping the future of CARIFORUM-EU cooperation.

  • EU-Andean Countries Conference on informal work, freedom of association and the fight against child labour

    The EESC participates in the important event on labour, organized by the European Commission (DG EMPL). The Conference creates an opportunity to exchange views on how to strengthen compliance with labour rights and promote decent working conditions, with a particular focus on freedom of association, combating informality at work in rural areas and eradicating child labour.
