Background
The proposed Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) establishes a European framework to accelerate industrial capacity, strengthen competitiveness and support decarbonisation in key strategic sectors. Against a backdrop of global competition, geopolitical tensions, high energy costs and declining industrial capacity, the initiative seeks to ensure that the green transition becomes a driver of industrial prosperity rather than de-industrialisation. It addresses three core challenges: insufficient demand for European low-carbon industrial products, supply-chain vulnerabilities in strategic sectors and technologies, and the slow deployment of industrial decarbonisation solutions due to permitting and investment barriers. By boosting demand for clean and “Made in the EU” products, simplifying and speeding up permitting for manufacturing projects, supporting industrial clusters and enabling better market differentiation for low-carbon steel, the Act aims to reinforce the EU’s industrial base, safeguard jobs, enhance strategic autonomy and contribute to climate neutrality while preserving economic and social stability across the Union.
