President Röpke discusses water scarcity, digital and energy transition with Euromed partners

On 5 July President Röpke participated in the 2023 Euromed Summit organised in cooperation with the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat, the Anna Lindh Foundation and Bibliotheca Alexandrina. This year's summit focused on water scarcity and desertification as well as on digital and energy transitions in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

During his opening speech President Röpke underlined that water scarcity is a global problem, which is affecting many parts of the world, including Europe. He recalled the EESC efforts to make water a cross-cutting theme in EESC's work for 2023 – the so called "EU Blue Deal".

The President also underscored the paramount importance of the digital and green transitions in the Euro-Mediterranean region, which can contribute to ecological, economic and social development. Finally, he recalled the Egyptian National Strategy for Human Rights adopted in 2021 and the importance of proper implementation of this strategy.

During his visit to Egypt, President Röpke meet with number of President and high-level stakeholders from economic and social bodies, notably from Palestine, Israel, Jordan, as well as Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF), Josep Ferré and the Head of EU Delegation to Egypt, H.E Christian Berger.
