Background

The EESC played a key role in 2002 and 2003 during the European Convention, constantly keeping up to date the whole civil society on the discussions and decisions that were taken. Its essential role has been fully recognised by all the other EU institutions.  In the same vein, the EESC has been the first institution to adopt, after a long and thorough debate that has also included the input of the national Economic and Social Councils, a Resolution on the future of Europe in response to the Commission's White Paper on the future of Europe in 2017.
