As a follow-up to the Consumer Dialogues, "Les Assises des Consommateurs" (the 2018 Consumer Summit) showcased the results of this outreach and offered the opportunity for debate and conclusions.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in cooperation with the European Retail Financial Forum (ERFF) organised a high-level conference on Consumers at the heart of finance in Europe took place on 26 September in Brussels.
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in cooperation with the Thessaloniki’s Traders Association and the University of Macedonia has organised a Public Hearing on the Company Law package. The purpose of this hearing was to gather input and feedback from Greek stakeholders on this comprehensive set of measures aiming for fair, enabling, transparent and modern company law rules in Europe.
The event brought together players from the SMEs scene in Greece, business organisations' and workers' representatives, experts and academics, as well as EESC members to discuss this topical issue.
On 18 June 2018, the European Economic and Social Committee, together with the European Commission, organised a stakeholder summit on artificial intelligence (AI). The summit brought together businesses representatives, academia, workers, citizens, policy makers and NGO's to discuss the next steps to advance the EU strategy on AI.
The EESC has been working on the topic of Social Economy Enterprises for the past decade and a dedicated permanent study group has been created in 2016. In view of the success of the European Day of Social Economy Enterprises in 2016 and 2017, it was proposed to organise a third edition of this event.
The European Economic and Social Committee is organising a hearing as part of its work related to its own-initiative opinion on Artificial intelligence: anticipating its impact on jobs to ensure a fair transition.
The main objective of the hearing will be to debate the impact of artificial intelligence on different sectors of work and to discuss how to anticipate these changes and developments in order to reduce the negative impact on workers, businesses and consumers, and to ensure a fair transition.
The hearing was part of the EESC follow-up work related to its opinion on Improving the effectiveness of EU policies for SMEs, adopted in July 2017.
The main objective of the hearing was to debate the effectiveness and efficiency of EU policies for SMEs and gather valuable input and feedback from Lithuanian stakeholders on the matter with a view to finding ways in which they can be improved. Particular emphasis was put on the recommendations that have been outlined in the EESC opinion with the aim of implementing them at national level.

The stakeholders are also invited to express their views on the current definition of SMEs and on its potential need for revision.
The illicit tobacco trade is a major concern for the EU, posing great risks to both consumers and businesses and causing losses of more than EUR 10 billion to public revenues annually. It is also an important source of revenue for international organised crime. This conference will discuss how to step up the fight against the illicit tobacco trade from the perspective of different stakeholders.

As society and the economy advance towards the age of post-mass consumption and the Internet of Things, what can consumers expect? A new generation is asking: how does big data affect the choices I make? How much is my personal data worth, and who is using it?
