UPR report - submitted by members of the Child Rights NGO Coalition (Hungary) - March 2021

The report of the NGO Coalition on the Rights of the Child deals with the disadvantages suffered by the Roma children.

It covers not only with the issue of segregated education, but also with the fact that a large number of Roma children are removed from their families unlawfully, due to the family’s poor financial circumstances. This means they will live in children’s homes, far from their families, and meanwhile their living conditions are not improving; in state care, they live under similarly poor conditions, and in a number of cases they have been abused in these institutions.

The report on children’s rights deals with the situation of children in other vulnerable groups too, and the new problems caused by the pandemic, especially the difficulties of distance education and the communication between the children removed from their families and their parents, since personal communication is often impossible due to COVID.
