and Social Committee
25th meeting of the Europe 2020 Steering Committee
The 25th meeting of the Europe 2020 Steering Committee took place on 1 June 2016, at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) building, with participation of representatives from the Economic and Social Councils and similar institutions from EU Member States.
During the afternoon, a thematic debate was organised on inclusive growth, in continuation of the EESC opinion on the Annual Growth Survey 2016, adopted in February 2016. More specifically, Europe needs a socio-economic model that delivers well-being for its citizens. In order to keep its social and welfare models sustainable, a change away from the existing EU 2020 Strategy, with its emphasis on economic growth and full employment, is necessary and special attention should be given to themes such as: social investment, disruptive technological change, the ageing population and the effects of inequality.
