Afternoon panel: Impact of climate crisis on gender equality. Discussion on the occasion of the European Gender Equality Week

Keynote speaker: Florence RAES, Director at UN Women Brussels Office

Key points:

• climate change will push more girls and women into poverty as they have higher rate of employment on climate impacted industries (e.g. agriculture)
• women have less access to migration if climate related disasters occur
• there is a need for gender statistics on climate
• programmes for green resilience should be developed (already some examples in Africa on digital economic platforms);
• EU and UN should continue to work together on this issue.
