European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA)

Summary of the initiative

Name
European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA)
Objective(s)
To create a European Code of Conduct for the field of Engineering Consultancy; to set minimum standards for professional conduct in the sector. As the Single Market has created new opportunities for Engineering Consultants it has simultaneously increased the competition for engineering consultancy contracts. Consequently this Code has been instigated to govern the relationships between Consultants and to provide a framework for relations with clients. This Code of Conduct is intended to ensure high standards of professional conduct amongst consulting engineers and consulting companies that are affiliated to the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA). This Code is designed to set standards with regard to the quality of service, fidelity to clients, impartiality, social and environmental responsibility and the fairness of competition. Members of EFCA require that all affiliated consultants together with the whole of their management and staff observe, as a minimum, the obligations set out in the Code. The Code of Conduct addresses the following areas: Qualifications, Conditions, Responsibility, Duties to Clients, Duties to the Profession and the Application of National Codes.
