Problems that lead to the introduction of Self/Co-Regulation and the adoption of the Founding Act:
Coaching, Mentoring and the Supervision of coaches, mentors and supervisors, are not regulated professions and hence any person who wishes can call themselves a coach, mentor or supervisor without requisite training and accreditation, continuing professional development, adherence to a code of ethics and minimum standards of competence and conduct.
Purchasers of these services need robust criteria to inform their selection of coaches, mentors and supervisors and evidence of their professional competence and conduct. In addition, clients of these services need to be reassured that their coaches, mentors and supervisors follow ethical professional and business practices.
Individual skilled practitioners wish to distinguish their practice both ethically and professionally and are keen to validate their credibility in the market.
Standards across the industry benefit the range of stakeholders from client groups, to coaches, mentors, supervisors, and accredited coaching schools and academia.
The status and reputation of the professions.
