Implementing the New European Bauhaus

Practical information

Background

On 16 December 2025, the European Commission presented its plans for the future of the New European Bauhaus

Adopted as part of the European Housing Package, the Communication “New European Bauhaus: From vision to implementation” and its accompanying proposal for a Council Recommendation set out the key actions to scale up the initiative and strengthen its role as a driver of the clean transition and innovation in Europe and beyond.

This new chapter for the New European Bauhaus outlines goals and actions to expand the New European Bauhaus’s impact as a driver of the clean transition and innovation in Europe and globally.

The European Commission counts on the cooperation of the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, the European Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee to raise awareness and to promote the NEB and its related opportunities in their constituencies, to involve civil society and to share available resources.

The Council is invited to adopt the proposal for a Council Recommendation accompanying the Communication, in order to strengthen cross-sectoral efforts in their respective country and to ensure that the NEB becomes operational and factored into relevant national, regional and local initiatives and funding.

The EESC provided its input in defining the vision with an opinion adopted in 2022 (TEN/757).

This EESC Opinion will shed light on the priorities and concerns of civil society regarding the implementation of the actions outlined by the European Commission.
