Romanian member Aurel Laurenţiu Plosceanu is the new EESC vice-president for communication
The April plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) saw the election of the new vice-president in charge of communication for 2023‑2025.
Aurel Laurenţiu Plosceanu has been elected the new vice-president for communication of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the house of EU organised civil society.
A Romanian national, Mr Plosceanu belongs to the Employers' Group and will be at the helm of the EESC, together with newly-elected president Oliver Röpke (Austria, Workers' Group) and newly‑elected vice‑president for budget Krzysztof Pater (Poland, Civil Society Organisations' Group).
His election took place at the mid-term renewal plenary session on 26 April 2023, marking the beginning of the second two-and-a-half year term of the EESC's 2020-2025 mandate, which will come to an end in October 2025.
Soon after the result was announced, the new vice-president for communication said: I am very happy to take up this responsibility, to which I am strongly committed. Nowadays we are facing multiple challenges and we need to be able to communicate effectively what we do at EU level and make the voice of EU organised civil society heard

An EESC member since 2007, Mr Plosceanu has been president of the Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship (SOC) since 2020 and is EU chair of the EU-Serbia Joint Consultative Committee.
In his home country, he is currently president of the Romanian Construction Entrepreneurs' Association (ARACO) and vice-president of the General Union of Romanian Industrialists (UGIR).
Mr Plosceanu holds qualifications in technical engineering (Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest) and law (Nicolae Titulescu University Bucharest) as well as an eMBA in economics (INDE), and a postgraduate in defence (Romanian National Defence College).
Born in Bucharest, he speaks English and French.
