EESC honors finalists for organic excellence in SMEs, Retail, and Gastronomy

The finalists for the 2025 EU Organic Awards have been officially announced, celebrating outstanding contributions to organic production and consumption across the European Union. Twenty-one finalists from thirteen EU countries have been selected across seven categories. Winners will be revealed at the official ceremony in Brussels on 23 September 2025, during the EU Organic Day celebrations.

Established in 2022 as part of the Action Plan for the Development of Organic Production, the EU Organic Awards honour projects that are innovative, sustainable, inspiring, and impactful across the organic value chain, from farmers and regions to processors, retailers, and restaurants. The awards highlight best practices and bring visibility to the EU organic logo and its values.

EESC Honors Organic Excellence in SMEs, Retail, and Gastronomy

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) plays a key organisational and decision-making role in three of the award categories that bridge the gap between organic production and the consumer experience:

  • Best Organic Food Processing SME
  • Best Organic Food Retailer
  • Best Organic Restaurant/Food Service

These categories reflect the EESC’s long-standing commitment to supporting civil society actors and sustainable enterprises that lead the organic transition at ground level. As a co-organiser and jury member, the EESC ensures that the awarded projects embody not just innovation and sustainability, but also inclusivity, fair business models, and social value.

Award background and broader impact

The EU Organic Awards are jointly organised by the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Committee of the Regions, COPA-COGECA, and IFOAM Organics Europe, with additional jury representation from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.

With EU organic farmland reaching 17.7 million hectares — 10.9% of total agricultural area in 2023 — the awards support the momentum towards the EU Green Deal target of 25% organic agriculture by 2030. Promoting excellence in organic business and civic engagement is essential to increasing both consumer trust and demand.
