Statement of the EESC President on the situation in Iran
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) stands in solidarity with the people of Iran and unequivocally condemn the violent repression of Iranian women, men and children in their legitimate struggle for freedom and democracy
We are deeply concerned by reports of violence and strongly condemn the killing of protestors. We call for the release of innocent and persecuted individuals. Fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, must be respected.
We at the EESC will continue to speak out for a Europe that keeps upholding the principles and values enshrined in its Treaties, in the UN Charter and in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Together, these guarantee the rights for human dignity and life in the EU and beyond.
