Statement on the election of Roberta Metsola as President of the European Parliament
We would like to congratulate Ms Roberta Metsola on her latest appointment as President of the European Parliament and wishes her a big success on her work to drive Europe through the current social, economic and environmental challenges.
We expect that being a woman of the “Erasmus generation”, coming from a small country of the south of Europe she will be especially sensitive and bold in promoting measures for an effective gender equality, make progress on women’s rights on auto determination, promote the overall wellbeing for the young Europeans in every aspect of their lives and fight for a holistically approach on migration.
We hope that the fresh beginning in her new position is an opportunity to reconsider certain past positions when it comes to abortion and the typification of violence against women as a crime and veil for the interests of all women. She can count on our support to further work towards this direction.
