The EESC Workers' Group designates Cinzia del Rio as President of the SOC section for 2023-2025

During its meeting today, the EESC Workers' Group designated Cinzia del Rio as President of the SOC section for the EESC's 2023-2025 term of office.

Ms del Rio is Director of the international department of UIL. She has been an active member of the SOC section, having been rapporteur of important opinions addressing among others issues linked to the European Pillar of Social Rights. She is currently Vice-President of the SOC section. She became a member of the EESC in 2015 and has also been active in the INT and ECO sections.

As part of her nomination speech she said: "It is an honour and a privilege to have been nominated as President of the SOC section by my Group today. Europe is facing new challenges that test its stability and cohesion. The war in the heart of Europe, the ensuing energy and cost of living crisis, the growing poverty, the strengthening of nationalist drives which jeopardise the EU's founding values have a profound social impact that will require a major involvement of the SOC Section, and this will be my ambition".

She will be confirmed as SOC section President in a vote during the mid-term renewal plenary of the EESC in April 2023.
