Island of resilience – Cyprus՚ perspective on climate, sustainability and food security

On 22 April 2026, the Civil Society Organisations՚ Group of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will host a high-level conference in Larnaca, under the patronage of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Entitled Island of resilience – Cyprus' perspective on climate, sustainability and food security, this event will take place at the Centre for Social Activities and Welfare of the Municipality of Larnaca, from 10.00 to 15.15 local time.

Faced with droughts and water scarcity, Cyprus is being challenged to rethink the use of natural resources at its disposal. In these challenging circumstances, policy-makers, environmentalists, farmers and other affected parties need to rethink the way they operate to ensure access to water and the quality and effectiveness of food production, all whilst ensuring the highest sustainability and environmental protection standards. The conference will set out the challenges that Cyprus as an island nation faces, what the EU could do to address them, and what lessons the EU could learn from Cyprus.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Greek, English and French.
