<< Back to Bulletin

Thank you for your continued readership and engagement with our bulletin. This month, we bring you different perspectives on how we, the Civil Society Organisations’ Group, are progressing with our priorities as a group within the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

Remaining consistent with our goal to reach communities all over the European Union, we will travel to Larnaca, Cyprus, for our conference entitled ‘Island of resilience — Cyprus’ perspective on climate, sustainability and food security’, under the patronage of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, later this month.

Our overarching priority of focusing on resilient communities is also reflected throughout this month’s publication. You can read comments by our members on the United Nations’ International Year of the Woman Farmer, food security and the role of biodiversity, a competitive and fair circular Europe, and the European Commission’s proposal for a new Bioeconomy Strategy. There are also contributions by the Union for the Mediterranean and Rural Youth Europe on how to build resilient communities.

This last month, I was delighted to meet, here in Brussels, with Welsh Young Leaders and the Bulgarian Association Youth Guard Units. Connecting intergenerational leaders is a key element for achieving a just transition towards a climate-neutral economy and for designing a future that is inclusive and fair.

In these turbulent times, it is almost impossible to predict what the next month will bring in terms of global geopolitical instability. It highlights the need for continued commitments to multilateralism. Our focus here is to continue to connect grassroots organisations with political decision makers. Our democracies are strong when communities are empowered. People are stronger when we develop partnerships and collaborations.

Our bulletin will shine a light on how the members of our group and our broad civil society family are working on so many topics to develop joint positions and to identify how we shape a brighter, more optimistic future. The challenges continue to grow, but our resilience and ability to cooperate continues to be our greatest defence.

Enjoy the updates, and I look forward as always to hearing your feedback, responses and considerations. Stay in touch and know that, at the EESC, we are always working to bring differing perspectives together and to find common ground to benefit all of society.
