EESC Workers' Group resolution on the new labour reforms proposed in Greece
Greek workers, including civil servants, professionals and freelancers, along with pensioners are protesting against the new wave of austerity measures and severe labour market "reforms" decided on by the Eurogroup and Finance Ministers on the 5 December.
The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) have called on all Greeks to demonstrate against these measures. The labour reforms include further restrictions to collective bargaining and making collective dismissals easier, even though the Greek labour market has already been subjected to severe labour market reforms.
Strikes have been called against the proposals for further labour market reforms, tax increases, and cuts in pensions and wages, that are under negotiation with Greece’s lenders as part of the bailout program requirements.
The burden Greek workers and pensioners are carrying is no longer bearable and is destroying the social fabric of society!
The Workers' Group of the Economic and Social Committee urgently calls for more debt-relief for Greece and an end to the harsh so called reforms that are destroying Greek citizen's hopes of restarting a decent life.
Ideological positions on austerity are putting democratic governments at risk, in Greece and in the rest of Europe.
