Sustainability in the new geopolitical order
Scope and objectives
On 8 September 2025 (14:30-18:00), the NAT section of the EESC will host its end of mandate debate with the aim of addressing some of the crucial and systemic questions raised by the new geopolitical order from the point of view of civil society, and to chart possible pathways for the future.
In conversation with key experts, stakeholders and youth representatives, the debate will focus on the following questions:
- What are the challenges and opportunities to ensure a sustainable future in an increasingly polarised world?
- What role for civil society in the governance of these transitions?
- What is the legacy from the outgoing NAT mandate that can help inform future priorities?
🎬The event will be web streamed freely on our website. ✅ No registration required.
🔊Interpretation: EN, FR and DE.
Context
In September 2015, exactly 10 years ago, the United Nations adopted the Agenda 2030 on sustainable development - an important achievement of multilateralism. We are now facing a new geopolitical order.
The next five years (also coinciding with the next mandate of the EESC and the NAT Section) will be crucial for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and for the necessary sustainability transformations in different areas: food systems, rural areas, climate neutrality, circular economy, just transition, etc.
