Financial literacy and education for Europeans
The EU recognises the importance of financial literacy and education among its citizens to protect consumers and ensure the financial well-being of individuals, and acknowledges its benefits on the performance of capital markets and the financial system as a whole, including financial stability and financing to the real economy. However, only 18% of EU citizens enjoy a high level of financial literacy, showing differences by age, sex, income and level of education.
The EESC is organising a public hearing that will put together institutions, industry and civil society stakeholders. We will discuss on how public policies and private initiatives can improve the current situation, and present good practices along the EU.
The conclusions of this event will be incorporated to the discussions of our ongoing opinion on the abovementioned Communication, that the EESC is drawing-up at the request of the European Commission.
The event is organised on 6 June 2025, starting at 9:30 a.m and will be webstreamed (original, EN, IT). No registration is needed and participation is free of charge.
