Context
The triple planetary crisis (climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution) alongside converging economic, social, and geopolitical challenges, are posing systemic risks to our way of life. Against this backdrop, the NAT section is organising a debate on the EEA's recently published flagship report Europe's Environment 2025.
This comprehensive and cross-cutting assessment on environment, climate and sustainability in Europe provides evidence-based facts, examining the central and vital role that the climate and the environment play in ensuring health, resilience, security, and prosperity for people.
This report is not only a technical report but also a tool for policy action, accountability and public engagement, underscoring the urgency of accelerating Europe’s transition towards sustainability. Civil society has a central role to play in this process through raising awareness, advocating for systemic change, and ensuring that evidence is translated into actionable recommendations that balance environmental protection, social fairness, and competitiveness. By engaging civil society in the debate, we aim to foster collective ownership of Europe’s sustainability agenda.
