Defining sustainable prosperity in the EU: towards indicators responding to citizen aspirations
On Thursday, 16 January 2025, from 09:30 – 12:15 (CET), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will host an event focusing on metrics for sustainable prosperity in the European Union. This event, organised by Pro(to)topia and the Club of Rome, will explore how social, environmental, political, and other indicators can reshape policy and ensure that progress towards moving beyond growth and societal wellbeing reflects the aspirations of people and the planet.
The event will focus on people-centered indicators and citizen engagement, and will hold discussions on addressing inequality and long-term sustainability:
- What headline indicators can represent the social, environmental, and institutional dimensions of a GDP+ framework
- How can a GDP+ framework better align with the aspirations of European citizens and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable European Semester?
- How can citizen engagement and meaningful public involvement shape the development of sustainable prosperity indicators?
- What approaches can ensure that long-term perspectives, nature and future generations, are adequately represented in measuring progress
