The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.
The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

The future role of civil society in the enlargement process, with the participation of Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of Moldova, Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement (video message), Majlinda Bregu, Secretary-General of the Regional Cooperation Council, and representatives of civil society organisations from candidate countries, preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of understanding between the European Economic and Social Committee and the Regional Cooperation Council, on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
European Strategy for Older Persons, linked to the adoption of the exploratory opinion SOC/757 on the European Strategy for Older Persons requested by the Spanish Presidency, with the participation of Dubravka Šuica, Vice-President for Democracy and Demography, and Dr Heidrun Mollenkopf, President of the AGE Platform Europe, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
