EU biotech and biomanufacturing initiative

Ursula von der Leyen’s State of the European Union address of 13 September announced an ‘EU Biotech and Biomanufacturing Initiative’ under the heading of ‘An Economy that Works for People’. The announced EU initiative is the latest indication of a greater point of recognition and acceleration for biotechnology and biomanufacturing: the EU Commission listed biotechnology as one of four critical technologies for Europe.

Biotechnology is a sector that contributes to the modernisation of European industry. Taking advantage of biotechnology helps the EU economy grow and provides new jobs, while also supporting sustainable development, public health, and environmental protection.
