This public hearing will gather policymakers and civil society stakeholders to discuss on how public banks can better support EU industrial policy, innovation, the scale-up of EU businesses, and, ultimately, economic growth.

In an opinion adopted at its March plenary session, the EESC calls for more ambitious reforms to integrate Europe’s capital markets and reinforce EU-level supervision, warning that persistent fragmentation is holding back investment, competitiveness and growth. Supporting the European Commission’s proposals for greater integration of capital markets and an efficient supervision system, the Committee stresses that only deeper market integration and coherent, streamlined supervision will allow EU capital markets to compete globally and allocate investment efficiently across the EU.

On 3 March 2026, the INT Section meeting hosted an expert hearing on a Proposal for a revised Cybersecurity Act and targeted amendments to the NIS2 Directive as part of the new Cybersecurity Package published by the European Commission the 20 January 2026. In light of increasing geopolitical tensions, the European Commission recognizes the need to strengthen the EU's cybersecurity rules.
