The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.
This week, EESC President Oliver Röpke conducted a series of bilateral meetings with Commissioners to address key topics on the EESC's agenda and establish strong working relationships with members of the newly-appointed College. On Tuesday, January 14, President Röpke met with Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy. On Wednesday, January 15, President Röpke held a bilateral meeting with Executive Vice President Stéphane Séjourné and with Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare.
Democracy, human rights, and the rule of law are the foundation of the European Union's identity. Within these values lies the right to peaceful assembly, a fundamental freedom enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, European Charter of Fundamental rights and the European Convention on Human Rights. As the House of the European organised civil society, the EESC has always fervently defended it.
