The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.
Participation in the 16th Annual Forum of INSULEUR (Network of the Insular Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the EU) on the topic: "Sustainable tourism planning and management for European INSULAR destinations". The EESC president will make his intervention during the opening session.
Ahead of the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the EU, the President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Georges Dassis, will meet with top Maltese decision-makers to present European civil society's contribution to the Maltese EU Presidency.
On 2 November, Mr Dassis, together with Maltese EESC Members, will meet:
H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of the Republic of Malta,
Mr Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister, and Dr Ian Borg, Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds,
Dr Helena Dalli, Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties
On 3 November, the EESC delegation will meet Members of the Maltese House of Representatives and Dr Simon Busuttil, Leader of the Opposition in Malta.
Over the three days, the delegation will also hold meetings with:
the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD),
the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry,
Participation in the event for the 20th anniversary of the Ferrero European Works Council. The EESC president will speak about the Current situation and the future: Strategy of Europe2020, on 27 October at 09:30
The Euromed Summit brings together some 120 participants from a range of economic and social councils, or similar institutions, representatives of employers, trade unions, other economic and social interests groups and NGOs from countries which are members of the Union for the Mediterranean.
