The inclusion of hydrogen as a reference fuel for the testing of an engine type or engine family

Practical information

Background

The proposal amends the EU rules on non-road mobile machinery engines to recognise hydrogen as a reference fuel for type-approval and emissions testing, aligning EU legislation with international UNECE standards.

The initiative aims to facilitate the deployment of hydrogen-powered machinery, support decarbonisation and industrial innovation, and strengthen the competitiveness of European manufacturers while removing existing regulatory barriers.
