Labour Market Observatory

The objective of the Labour Market Observatory (LMO) is to identify and analyse labour market trends and challenges, bringing added value to the work of the EESC and its Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship (SOC).

The LMO has been active since 2007. Its members include a president and two vice-presidents, rotating every two years and a half between the Employers' Group, the Workers' Group and the Civil Society Organisations' Group. In order to ensure synergies within the EESC, the LMO has members from all EESC sections.

The labour market in all EU countries is undergoing a profound transformation in its structures, mechanisms and industrial relations. At the heart of this transformation are various phenomena, which the LMO includes in its analysis. The observatory looks at labour market challenges and trends and collects examples of good practices. It also organises public events and internal meetings, stimulating discussion among EU institutions, socio-professional stakeholders, civil society organisations, academia and EESC members.

The Observatory works on various key topics such as youth employment, the integration of migrants into the labour market, the inclusion of the long-term unemployed in the labour market, vocational education and training (VET), and the effects of digitalisation (including the AI) and greening of the economy on employment and skills as well as on fair labour mobility.
