Following the Baltic, Danube and Adriatic Ionian Regions, the Alpine area is the fourth to develop its macro-regional strategy. With the collaboration of seven countries (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) and the European Commission, three specific pillars have been identified as a basis for future cooperation. These focus on sustainable growth and promoting innovation, connectivity and sustainability of natural and cultural resources.
Within this context the ECO Section of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is organising a public hearing in Ispra, Italy on Thursday, 25 June 2015 in order to collect and present the arguments and proposals of European institutions and policy makers as well as civil society representatives in their respective fields. The results of the discussion will feed into the opinion the EESC is currently drawing up, to serve as an contribution to the implementation of the EU Strategy on the Alpine Region.
