The Social Affairs theme covers many issues relating to people’s living and working conditions in the EU.
Topics that fall under the social affairs heading include employment, education and training, culture and sport, disability, gender equality, poverty, health, justice, immigration and asylum, Roma, children and families, young people, older people and demographic change, and volunteering and active citizenship.
All these themes are handled mainly by the Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship (SOC). The Labour Market Observatory also monitors trends and challenges affecting Europe’s workforce and labour market, while the Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI) intervenes on the social aspects of industrial change.
