EU-Japan DAG Workshop: 'Promoting human rights and environmental due diligence together' + Joint Dialogue with Civil Society in Tokyo

The EU-Japan Domestic Advisory Group under the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will hosted a workshop: "Promoting human rights and environmental due diligence together" on 9 April 2024 following a Joint Dialogue with Civil Society in Tokyo on 8 April. The workshop's objective was to foster dialogue between EU and Japan civil society representatives, focusing on best practices and a solution-oriented approach in an area of importance to the implementation of the TSD-chapter of the EU-Japan EPA. Human rights and environmental due diligence are topics of common interest, as the EU and Japan share values and want to secure resilient supply chains so as to do business in a sustainable way.

The first part of the workshop presented the general framework for human rights and environmental due diligence by the OECD and also included the participation of the ILO Japan.

The second part of the workshop was dedicated to the desk study 'A Scoping Study to Provide an Overview of Human Rights and Environmental Rights Legislation and its Impact on Businesses'. This exchange featured the participation of the European Business Council and the Japan Business Council in Europe. The objective of the discussions was to feed into the final version of the study and also contribute to proposals for EU-Japan cooperation in the fields of business, human rights and environmental due diligence.
