Hearing on low-carbon and renewable fuels

The EU aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and is committed to green maritime and air transport. In order to successfully decarbonise both sectors, one of envisaged solutions is to use a higher proportion of low-carbon and renewable fuels. However, there is no guarantee that the industrial capacities will be operational to meet the growing needs for these new fuels, at a price that is affordable for airlines and shipowners, and in consequence customers. Therefore, the aim of this debate is to discuss the current situation and its prospects, and to draw conclusions and recommendations regarding the industrial and regulatory aspects in the EU, while taking into account also the global situation.
