European Consumer Day 2023

Since 1999, the EESC has been organising the European Consumer Day where consumers gather to influence the EU debate. The topic of this year was "Consumers in the Digital World: Safeguarding Youth and Enforcing Laws". The objective was to reflect on how to achieve more efficient enforcement of the existing consumer protection legislation and how to tackle the challenges posed by the digital realm, with a special focus on minors.

The topics discussed included digital tools for enforcement of the EU consumer law, consumer risks in the digital environment, vulnerability of the young generation and role of the civil society in improving the situation.

The event was held in Brussels and it gathered high level speakers and representatives of EU institutions, national governments and civil society organisations.
