Energy research meets civil society to discuss low-carbon Europe

22 Jun 2012
Ref: 041 2012

A lack of communication between the world of research and civil society on the benefits and drawbacks of low-carbon technologies is affecting the wider understanding and endorsement of these technologies by European citizens. This is one of the findings of this week's EUSEW (EU Sustainable Energy Week) event co-organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). Up for discussion were geothermal energy, energy storage, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and nuclear research across the EU.

Entitled Together for low-carbon Europe:  energy research meets civil society, the event gathered together the research community and civil society to discuss why and how energy technologies and citizens need to be brought together. The event also provided a space for an interactive dialogue to demonstrate to a large audience the impact of technology research on people's everyday lives.
