EESC vice-president Anna-Maria Darmanin, the German contact point of the EESC, Dr. Renate Heinisch and three EESC members discussed this topic with more than 100 participants representing German governmental and non-governmental organisations.
The seminar in Berlin at the premises of the EU-Representation was based on the EESC's exploratory opinion on "Post-secondary Vocational Education and Training as an Attractive Alternative to Higher Education" (read more>>>), an important European issue, especially in Germany, where it is currently subject to much debate.
Günther Oettinger, the European Commissioner for Energy, opened the event via video message and encouraged the EESC to continue its efforts in this area, praising its indispensable value within the institutional framework of the European Union.
The three EESC members, Dr. Johannes Kleemann from the Employers' Group, Alexander Graf von Schwerin representing the Workers' Group and Prof. Dr. Bernd Schlüter from the Various Interests' Group outlined the current state of play as regards the EESC opinion on this topic and presented their views. After their short introductions, the discussion was opened up to the floor and an extremely lively and interesting exchange took place between the various participants and the EESC representatives.
