"The Digital Agenda as flagship of the Europe 2020 strategy  is a priority for the EESC; our members act as ambassadors in their countries and their organisations and networks, to bring its key messages closer to the European citizens and take the pulse of its effective implementation", said EESC President, Staffan Nilsson, at the closing plenary session of the first Digital Agenda Assembly (http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/digital-agenda/daa/index_en.htm).
In front of about 600 people attending this session on Friday 17 June 2011, Staffan Nilsson, Bill Kennard (US Ambassador to the EU), Graham Walker (Government Director at UK Digital Champion) and Diogo Vasconcelos (Cisco Systems International), participated in a debate on the "Social impact of ICT", facilitated by Robert Madelin, Director-General for the Information Society and Media DG of the European Commission.

During the debate, President Nilsson talked about e-inclusion and stressed that “Every European Digital" means providing a digital space with equal business and social opportunities for all citizens, without exceptions, while ensuring that both security and human rights are respected in the same manner as in real life”.
The Digital Agenda Assembly is the annual gathering of stakeholders to assess the progress and identify challenges ahead of the Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe (http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/digital-agenda/index_en.htm).  Laure Batut and Jan Simons (President of the Permanent Study Group on the Digital Agenda) and Edgardo Maria Iozia also participated in various workshops during the two days of the Assembly.
