Your Europe 2013

Open space event to launch the European Year of Citizens 2013 Conference - Brussels, Belgium

Europe finds itself in a serious crisis, which is having a direct impact on many citizens’ lives. As a result, there is also a perceptible lack of confidence in decision-makers and the ability of our democratic institutions to put things right. Now is the moment for the European Union to prove its value as the glue that keeps Europe together in peace and solidarity. But confidence in the EU project can only be restored if citizens play their part fully in giving Europe its future direction.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is pleased to invite you to embark on a journey to strengthen dialogue and participation within the context of the European Year of the Citizen 2013. On 23 and 24 January, we are holding an Open Space event in Brussels to explore future pathways of active European citizenship.

The aim of YOUR EUROPE 2013 is

  • to discuss current issues with a view to establishing concrete activities and outcomes (what does active citizenship mean, what are European values etc.);
  • to be a catalyst for strengthening citizens' activism and ownership (trigger ideas, link participants' activities and projects together etc.); and
  • to come up with new creative solutions (how to involve, inform, motivate and mobilise the various actors where participants see the need etc.).
