The EESC organizes a hearing on the Societal empowerment and integration of Roma citizens in Europe on Thursday 28th of April 2011 at the EESC premises in Brussels.
The Hungarian presidency has asked for the EESC's opinion on Societal empowerment and integration of Roma citizens in Europe. This is part of the presidency's horizontal approach to the social integration of the Roma, which has become the objective of all sectoral policies concerned.
The Committee opinion will contribute to the framework strategy on the social integration of the Roma, which will be adopted at the June 2011 European Council meeting. This strategy will provide the first building block of a common European policy on the Roma. On the basis of this strategy, the Member States will draft their own reform programmes on integrating the Roma.
