The Commission has set up a strategy promoting green infrastructure as a tool that uses nature and semi-natural elements to deliver a variety of benefits to the people and ecosystems. A sound co-ordination between all governance levels and the participation of civil society are key factors needed to advance green infrastructure in the EU.
Therefore, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in association with the European Commission DG Environment, are co-organising a conference on "Green Infrastructure: Engaging regions, cities and civil society" on 4 November 2013, 10.00 to 13.00 in Brussels, at the CoR/EESC main building.
Commissioner Janez Potočnik will present aspects of the European Commission's Green Infrastructure initiative, but will also incorporate details of how the next Multiannual Financial Framework can be used to finance relevant projects. Representatives from the EU institutions will respond, including on the Opinions on Green Infrastructure to be adopted by the CoR and EESC in October. The conference will also present best practices on how local and regional authorities as well as participative planning processes can help deploy green infrastructure on the ground.
Please note that this Hearing will also be web streamed live on our website: http://webcast.eesc.europa.eu/eesc/portal/index.html
