European Consumer Day
"Consumer protection and social inclusion in times of crisis"
14 March 2014
City Hall of Thessaloniki, Greece
The 16th edition of the European Consumer Day was held on 14 March 2014. A very important topic – "Consumer protection and social inclusion in times of crisis" was on the agenda this time.
Even in times of crisis consumers have their rights. Those rights are legally binding and even a long-lasting crisis cannot be used as an excuse for the lack of enforcement. What challenges lie ahead of policy makers in the field of consumer protection? Are enforcement bodies efficient enough or are consumer rights just a mirage in those difficult times? How to fight over-indebtedness and financial exclusion?
Those fundamental questions were asked during the conference. Just two months before the European elections, the stakeholders had once again a possibility to discuss consumer policy key issues with government's and EU institutions' representatives.
