The EU's own budget resources should be overhauled, giving them a new structure to take account of current economic realities. The current system for funding the EU budget is complicated and lacks clarity for the public. A high-level group on own resources chaired by Mario Monti has been formally established to this end. The Committee wants to revisit the issue of own resources and its broader ramifications, with the stress on a fair competitive environment for Europe's producers. The public hearing organised on Monday, 1 June 2015 at the EESC headquarters in Brussels will be a rare opportunity for stakeholders, politicans and civil society represetatives to discuss this highly sensitive topic.
