Victims of child sexual abuse suffer not only an intolerable violation of their right to physical integrity but also life-long horrific social, emotional and psychological consequences. Prevention on multiple levels is the key to protecting children.
The EESC commends the work of many civil society actors, particularly NGOs, in putting in place prevention measures and has collected a database of best practices in this field. It is our hope that the database will work as a living source of good ideas for all stakeholders working in this field.
So far more than 40 examples have been collected, with activities varying widely in terms of target group (young children, teenagers, parents and even offenders), environment (schools, faith-based organisations, the internet) and the method used (TV and internet campaigns, exhibitions, plays, counselling).
If you want to have your initiatives registered in our database, please contact the SOC section secretariat.
