Trajnostna preskrba s hrano

Hrana je v središču našega življenja in sestavni del evropske kulture. Vendar pa hrana, ki jo uživamo, načini njene proizvodnje in količine, ki jih zavržemo, močno vplivajo na zdravje ljudi, naravne vire in družbo kot celoto:

  • Državljani, zlasti otroci, vse bolj trpijo zaradi prekomerne telesne teže in debelosti, katerih vzrok je nezdrava prehrana.
  • Kmetje in delavci ne prejemajo poštenega plačila za svoje pridelke.
  • Tretjina hrane v prehranski verigi se izgubi ali zavrže.
  • Ceno za to plačuje okolje, saj proizvodnja in poraba hrane dramatično vplivata na podnebne spremembe, izgubo biotske raznovrstnosti, onesnaževanje zraka in vode, degradacijo tal itd.

Kriza, povezana s pandemijo COVID-19, je jasen znak, da so potrebne spremembe. Med krizo je postalo očitno, da prenos hrane od vil do vilic ne sme veljati za samoumevnega, pokazala pa se je tudi medsebojna povezanost akterjev in dejavnosti v celotnem prehranskem sistemu. Pravične, vključujoče in trajnostne verige preskrbe s hrano, ki učinkovito izkoriščajo vire, v celotnem kmetijskem in živilskem sektorju so potrebne bolj kot kadar koli prej, da bi enako koristile državljanom, kmetom, delavcem in poslovanju.

EESO je že več let med glavnimi zagovorniki trajnostne in celovite prehranske politike v EU. Tak povezan in sistemski pristop je bistven za reševanje številnih in medsebojno povezanih izzivov, ki vplivajo na prehranske sisteme, omogočanje gospodarske, okoljske in družbeno-kulturne trajnosti, zagotavljanje povezovanja in skladnosti med področji politik (kot so kmetijstvo, okolje, zdravje, izobraževanje, trgovina, gospodarstvo, tehnologija itd.) ter spodbujanje sodelovanja na vseh ravneh upravljanja.

  • On 17 November 2023, the Permanent Group on Sustainable Food Systems (PG) and the Sustainable Development Observatory (SDO) of the EESC will hold a joint meeting on the theme "Sustainable food systems as drivers for the implementation of the SDGs" to bring together members of the two EESC bodies and representatives from the European Commission and other stakeholders from the agri-food chain.

  • On 6 November 2023, the EESC will host a public hearing in the context of its ongoing opinion on 'Promoting autonomous and sustainable food production: strategies for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027' requested by the upcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

  • Extraordinary meeting of the Civil Society Organisations' Group

    This is an in-person conference that will be live streamed. Registration for in-person participation is required.

  • State of progress after the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit

    On 22 June, the EESC will host an online public hearing to explore the state of progress of the EU on the path to more sustainable, fairer and inclusive food systems, following the new actions agreed upon during the UN Food System summit in 2021.

  • On Friday, 14 April 2023, the NAT Section is organising a public hearing "Towards a European Food Policy Council / Sustainable Food System" to feed into the own-initiative opinion NAT/892- Towards a European Food Policy Council as a new governance model in the future EU Framework on Sustainable Food Systems in order to compile the views of the civil society organisations working on these issues.

  • On Thursday, 23 March 2023, the NAT Section is organising a public expert event "What next for European action on childhood obesity?" to feed into the exploratory opinion requested by the upcoming Spanish Presidency to the Council of the European Union.

  • Food security and sustainable food systems - With Commissioner Wojciechowski

    The EESC will host the third EU Youth Round Table on Wednesday 30 November, 14:30-16:00 CET. Janusz Wojciechowski, Commissioner for Agriculture, will participate in the event and will engage with the youth representatives on the topic: food security and sustainable food systems.

  • The role of civil society

    This thematic debate aims to discuss the impacts of the war on food security worldwide, with a focus on some specific world regions; further actions that will be needed to ensure food security while fostering resilient and sustainable food systems and the role civil society can play in ensuring food security both in Europe and beyond.

  • Consumers and Environment Category

    The aim of the conference is to look at how the European Union can be more active in this area, especially through better cooperation among the key stakeholders. The conference will take place in a hybrid format.

  • Izredna seja skupine Raznolikost Evrope v okviru slovenskega predsedovanja Svetu EU

    Dogodek bo potekal 29. novembra 2021 v Bruslju in Ljubljani, in sicer v hibridni obliki. Zunanji udeleženci se lahko na tej strani prijavijo do 25. novembra 2021.
