Methodology

The meetings will bring together partners as rural stakeholders (not only farmers), local authorities of the regions identified, central government policy makers, EU institutional partners as well as other civil society organisations.

The aim is to share experiences and to build support for improved cooperation in order to reach a more balanced territorial development that would take into account both rural and urban development needs as well as other aspects.

The events will be organised in at least four EU countries during 2014 and 2015, each of which is chosen to illustrate particular regional problems and represent diverse geographical and socioeconomic realities.

In this regard the first three topics tackled are the following:

  • Issues that touch northern regions with harsh climate and long distances (e g. rural or northern Sweden);
  • Rural depopulation (e g. the Bulgaria);
  • Rural depopulation and difficulties in an island with mixed measures of regional success (e g. Corsica in France).
