The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) held a debate on how to improve access to finance for women entrepreneurs, as part of Committee's gender equality initiative following up on the Parliament's Gender Equality Week Initiative. Women are underserved when it comes to financing, or not at all provided for. Participants agreed that empowering these women is vital to enhance business productivity and economic growth. Moreover, women in leadership are more conscious of – and deliver on – climate objectives and encourage diversity.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) held a debate on Gender Equality and Women's and Girls' empowerment in the context of Food Security and Nutrition. In light of the climate crisis, and in the context of the recent COP27, the EESC has identified the intersection between gender and climate change as a top priority for the EU. The debate is an important contribution to the ongoing EESC initiative on gender equality.

The EESC held a debate on gender-based investments in the Member States' national Recovery and Resilience Plans (RRPs). Following on from the European Gender Equality Week, the event gathered policy-makers, experts from organised civil society and academia to discuss, among other things, how EU countries can improve the impact of the measures proposed in their RRPs on gender equality during implementation and monitoring.

Equal pay for men and women or for work of equal value is one of the fundamental rights and principles of the EU, but on average women are still paid 14% less per hour than men, with pay differences present in all sectors and widening with age. Although welcomed as a much-needed step to close the gender pay gap, the Commission's proposal on pay transparency is receiving a mixed response, an EESC hearing found.

EHSV sa domnieva, že napriek všeobecnému napredovaniu v oblasti rodovej rovnosti potrvá pri súčasnom tempe vyše sto rokov, kým ženy dosiahnu v Európe rovnaké postavenie ako muži.

V dôsledku obáv, že nedávne útoky na práva žien v Európe by mohli vážne ohroziť pokrok zameraný na dosiahnutie rovnosti mužov a žien, Európsky hospodársky a sociálny výbor (EHSV) naliehavo vyzýva Európsku úniu a jej členské štáty, aby rodovú rovnosť zaradili na popredné miesto svojho politického programu.
