The Report on Competition Policy for 2021 presents the key policy developments and legislative initiatives undertaken in 2021, as well as a selection of enforcement actions.
The Commission intends to work with Member States, the Ukrainian authorities, transport operators, equipment suppliers and all other relevant stakeholders on both sides to establish alternative and optimised logistic routes: the new ‘EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes’. This proposal for an amendment of the Council Regulation (EU) 2015/1588 aims to improve the interplay of the future EU funding programmes with State aid rules. It will enable the Commission to make targeted modifications of current State aid rules.
The EESC stresses the role of national competition authorities (NCAs) to fight against secret cartels and shows its concern with the serious shortcomings regarding the independence and resources of the NCAs in many Member States. It recommends that the powers allocated to the NCAs should also be used in preventive actions and that they should be granted the power to institute legal proceedings in their own right.
