The 10th edition of the ECI Day exceptionally took place online and over two days. 3 June was a full day of debates on the ECI instrument, focusing on aspects key to making the ECI more powerful and strengthening participatory democracy at EU level. On 4 June, the organisers of ongoing initiatives were given the floor to present their initiatives.
Hearing in the framework of the EESC opinion on Renewed partnership with the Southern Neighbourhood - A new Agenda for the Mediterranean
In order to prepare its opinion on the Commission's proposal on the "EU Disability Strategy 2021-2030", the EESC is organising a public hearing on 1 June 2021, from 9.30 am to 1 pm.
The aim of the event is to gather input from other EU Institutions, organisations representing persons with disabilities, social partners and other civil society organisations on the Commission's proposal. This input will feed into the EESC's opinion.
This EU Green Week partner event aims to take stock of the implementation of sustainable development policy in the EU and the intake of SDGs.
The Recovery and Resilience Facility is moving into its next phase, and the European Semester Group of the EESC is following the process. In this high-level conference we will discuss whether the national recovery and resilience plans will deliver as regards the aim of achieving fair, inclusive, competitive and sustainable growth and cohesion through the new growth strategy – the European Green Deal. Focus will be on the implementation of the national recovery and resilience plans, with particular attention on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and the just transition towards a green, digital and sustainable European economy. The conclusions of this event will be forwarded to EU institutions and the "EU Recovery Summit" conference in Lisbon on 28 June 2021.
The Strategy on the Rights of the Child and the Child Guarantee aim to provide better protection to children. The Strategy on the rights of the child focuses on six thematic areas, amongst which socioeconomic inclusion and combatting violence against children. The Child Guarantee aims to fight against child poverty and social exclusion by guaranteeing access to basic rights and services for children in need, amongst which healthcare and education.
The hearing aims to gather viewpoints on these initiatives, with the participation of organisations and other stakeholders working in the field.
While changing our approach to the EU Green Deal, the pandemic is also providing a golden opportunity to bring our societies into the future. The event will focus on the role of SGIs in this process, as well as the financial instruments being developed at EU level to achieve the climate ambitions of the EU Green Deal in the aftermath of the pandemic.
The online public hearing organised by the EESC in the context of the EESC Thematic Study Group (TSG) on Sustainable Food Systems aims to explore the vulnerabilities and inequalities of European food systems and to identify the enablers to achieve more equitable and fair supply chains.
Macro-regional recovery and resilience initiatives - Joint meeting of REX and ECO Sections.
The purpose of this meeting is to explore how macro-regional strategies contribute to the recovery and resilience of their regions. The meeting will look at how management authorities of the strategies were actually involved in the preparation of the national recovery plans, which projects have been included, how civil society organisations were part of the process. The afternoon session will be dedicated to the idea of a new macro-regional strategy for the whole Mediterranean region encompassing the countries of the Southern Neighbourhood.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent huge global leap to digitalisation has put the taxation of companies in the spotlight of public debate. The EESC aspires to contribute to the debate by co-organising with the IMF a virtual joint public debate "Taxing multinationals in Europe". This virtual joint public debate will bring together the IMF, OECD, EC, EESC and other key stakeholders in the area of taxation. On this occasion, the IMF will officially present its report "Taxing multinationals in Europe".
